Good gig
Alot tamer than the bloodhound gang but still good.
Cool how such a big band has come to our home town :D
Good venue, the Parr Hall, a nice size and sounds good.
Support act were a bit soft at first but got better.
Travis played all of their classics plus some new ones from their soon to be released album.

Travis - Warrington Parr Hall - 22nd March 2007

Wow it's wierd typing warrington as the venue there lol. Yup very lucky to get a big band like travis come to own small home town. In typical Warrington-cock-up fashion, the doors were scheduled to open at 7, but only opened at half past. About 15 mins freezing outside in a queue, but there was an xfm van outside playing kings of leon and ash - so it's all good.

First time I think actually been in this venue. Pretty cool. Kinda like a mini manchester apollo (set out almost identical but smaller). I guess all "theatres" would be similar though. Full house lights on is really light, kinda like being in your lounge. Support act came out and those house lights stayed on for the best part of song one. I thought they werent going to be switched off at first.

Kinda cool support. Considering keane, kings of leon and kt tunstall have all been past travis support acts, they had some big shoes to fill! Got some good tunes. They sounded very "clear" in their sound. Probably cos there was only three members, so you could clearly hear each instrument and vocals. In a way thats best for a support act, it helps getting to know unfamiliar songs if they sound nice and clear. They had a nice light rock sound to them. Played electric guitars all night, except last song which was acoustic (yet the most rocky of the set!)

Onto Travis! I'd already heard most of the new album several times so was well familiar with the new tracks. Kicked things off with eyes wide open, which was a good song to open with - onto the awesome writing to reach you. Their set mixed with the classics and great new tunes, including the new single closer and bound to be future single my eyes. I was really pleased to hear pipe dreams live, one of my favs. As with most bands with as many albums as travis have, there will always be ones they miss out though (most notably reoffender, quicksand and happy to hang around) - but really cant complain with what they did play.

Fran was his usual funny and chatty self. A couple of funny things he said was that during "selfish jean" to dance like this (*does a funky disco*), that he thought something in such a small package was bound to be firing blanks (refering to his relief of getting his wife pregnant), and just before playing new song colder he demonstrated that he could actually play the harmonica (claiming he always fecks it up when out of breath in the actual song lol)

During The Good Feeling it was funny when they got the whole crowd to point at the keyboardist during the keyboard solo. The bassist was clearly laughing at the amount of hands pointing at the guy lol. U16 girls was a great way to end the main set, with everyone singing to the "na na na na" bit

Fran praised the venue at one point saying it was nice. During All I wanna do is rock the guitarist went up on the balcony with his guitar, trying to get people to play the guitar and leaning over the edge doing a solo. Looked cool. We were standing in almost the exact same spot I was in at the cavern club a couple of years back watching em (when I got one of frans picks). This time another pick landed near me, but someone got it first :-p

WDIAROM to finish things of in the usual jumpy way. Obviously most other travis songs arent really the jumpy kind, but most people were still well into the gig all night. They have so many great tunes, and love watching em live!

Great band, great gig.... and in warrington! Lets hope more bands start to come the parr hall from now on.
