Back in the MEN less than two weeks after Ashcroft. The upper tier was open this time. As Pete said at the start, when you go
in the arena early with all the lights on it really does seem bigger. They had this cool text thing on the top screens now, first time
ive seen it there. People were texting funny messages but they cost a bomb! Great idea though.

Fratellis up on first. Surprised how the arena was still only like half full for the start of their set. Thought more people wud have
made an effort to get there on time for them with these being pretty big themselves now. A lot of good lively tunes in their set.
Best ones were the first, and last three songs (finished on Chelsea Dagger which was great). Shame they didnt do Country
Boys & City Girls though! They prob could have picked a better selection of album tracks but still were good. Crowd didnt get
into them enough, but thats usual for support acts.

Another interval messing around on camera phone watching this cool DJ they had on stage (who played a bunch of cool tunes
and was dancing). They had a white curtain up which fell down once the gig started and Kasabian came on to do their own cool
intro tune. Then opened up with a very lively shoot the runner, into a cracking reason is treason.

The crowd were very lively throughout with nearly everyone standing. Pretty impressive that they have gone from playing small
local clubs in 2004 to this 20,000 packed arena in 2006. The lights were alright but nothing special. They played a big chunk of
their new album, with a bunch of classics from the first. Popped to get a Pepsi midway through and got stuck behind some guy
who ordered 7 pints to find out he couldnt carry them all!! The set wasnt as lively in the middle but picked right back up for a brilliant
encore. Was a ace last three songs and crowd was more into the gig than ever come then.

Will add photos when I find some!

Consider this short arena tour a lap of honour for Kasabian, bringing a year in which the psychedelic rockers have
assumed a position in rock's big leagues to a close. And if Manchester is the Leicester-based band's spiritual home
(aside from the Oasis and Stone Roses influences and connections, singer Tom Meighan has a peculiar accent -
Midlands by way of Burnage), then last night was their spiritual homecoming gig. It certainly felt that way.
Just two years ago, Kasabian were playing to a half-empty Roadhouse. Last night, they filled the arena, employing
one of this year's hottest up-and-coming bands, The Fratellis, as support.

Kasabian's winning formula is simple – like Oasis, they've brought the thrill of the terraces to their music and gigs, a
point proven by the deafening chants of LSF's infectious chorus echoing around Victoria Station as the rowdy crowd
made their way home last night.

With their latest album, Empire, they upped the ante significantly. While it may not contain as many obvious singles as
2004's eponymous debut (Reason Is Treason, Cutt Off and Processed Beats sounded thrilling last night), it's a satisfying
move into new territory, bringing Krautrock influences, glam rock and Led Zep heaviness into their swaggering indie-dance.
Live, Empire and Shoot The Runner sounded stompingly good.

But while the music has shifted up a gear, the stage show hasn't necessarily been beefed up to match. Last night was
an opportunity for full on, arena-sized pyrotechnics sorely missed. Instead, singer Tom Meighan is the explosive element,
running around with the gymnastic prowess of a young Roger Daltrey and frequently assuming a messianic pose at centre
stage front.

Tellingly, when Meighan exited briefly for fedora-wearing guitarist Serge Pizzorno's two stints in the limelight, most of the
people dancing in the seated areas slunk back down in their chairs. But, oddly, these misfiring slower segments were a
necessary part of the action, if just to stop the full band's songs from melding into one giant, apocalyptic dirge. There's work
to be done yet, but, without doubt, they'll be one of the stars of next year's festival season.
