2007-11-09 My Journey to The Porcupine Tree gig in The Forum - Kentish Town Where they banned cameras : ( Click here for the photos from yesterday's Porcupine Tree gig Tea and Coffee All my luggage Breakfast |
| Fri I walked it to the bus stop and met Shirlaine. Nice girl number 1 : ) recommended the museum and we spoke about all sorts including art, music and travelling. We said our goodbyes and I went to the museum. I'm glad she recommended it coz it was really good! Cool dinosaurs, stuffed birds of prey, etc. It was funny to see the high schoolers taking photos of each other rather than the animals etc. Myspace has a lot to answer for! Banana time and DIY cheapo ham subs while listening to red Indian beats on the high street. I got the train back to London's Paddington then underground for ages until Kentish Town. I found The Forum very easily but walked around for about half an hour looking for a non existant Travelodge lol. Damn google maps lied to me : ( I went to the pub, had a pint and got a load of free drinks off Kev n Mike :D Very friendly gigaholics and lovers of beer : ) Cheers for the free drinks, tourist info and of course company! I queued a while outside in the cold suprisingly long queue and attempted a conversation with a nice Korean lady. Was entertaining to say the least : ) Unfortunately cameras were banned for this gig. I lied about having a camera and just about got it into the gig but didnt take any photos as I didnt was to risk losing yesterdays pics. I made friends with some more lads - fellow Amplifier and Massive Attack fans :D The gig was much MUCH better than last night. Especially for Anathema as they were dressed up properly and had a drummer. Lee looked pretty in her red outfit. They played a much longer set and seemed much more into it. They played until they got kicked off during a Pink Floyd cover lol! Nice try. Nice to know they sound local to where I live near Liverpool. Spoke about Riverside with my new buddies until Porcupine Tree appeared. Well chuffed to hear at least some different songs than last night plus with a much better sound system, air con system and crowd although with one or two exceptions : ( Cant win em all I guess! Cant believe they played Trains right after I shouted it! I've never heard it live in the four other times that I've seen them and it's fantastic :D My other favourites of the night were Annies Thighs (Anesthetize - of course! in its 17 minute godliness) Blackest Eyes, Open Car, Way out of Here, and Sleep Together. The setlist was: What Happens Now? Blackest Eyes The Sound of Muzak Lazarus Nil Recurring Anesthetize Waiting (Phase One) Open Car Darkmatter Cheating The Polygraph A Smart Kid Way Out of Here Sleep Together The Sky Moves Sideways Trains Halo It was a real downer that I wasnt allowed to take photos. I was in an amazing spot and the stage lighting was much better than in the Oxford gig. The first gig I've been to in a LONG time without taking pics. Nice to hear the crowd singing along peacefully sometimes. I bought myself a beanie hat and went to the bus stop where I met Lisa :D Absolutely stunning girl from Edinburgh / San Francisco. Thank god we started chatting as it lead to an extended great night. The Worlds End pub played some good music including Tool, Incubus, Alice in Chains and Pantera. Every hour spent in the company of a beautiful woman feels like 10 minutes : ) We strongly believe in Karma and this was probably repayment for not being able to take photos in the gig.
